Greenheart’s TeachUSA Teacher Contributes to the Success of her Host School!

One of Greenheart’s teachers, Nousheen Usman (Middle School Teacher), was nominated for the New Teacher of the Year Award by her host school, Renaissance Charter School at Hunters Creek. Furthermore, Nousheen’s idea in the reading program was showcased in the newsletter for the Beable program, which was published nationwide. We connected with Nousheen to learn more about her accomplishments and program experience – read on to find out!

What is your name, the name of your school, and your role at the school?

My name is Nousheen Usman. I work at Renaissance Charter School at Hunters creek as a Reading Teacher. I have been part of the faculty since 2024, teaching grades 6 to 8.

Has Greenheart’s Teach USA Program had a long-term impact on you? How so?

Absolutely. The Teach USA Program has broadened my worldview, strengthened my teaching skills, and taught me how to build meaningful cross-cultural connections. It has also helped me grow professionally and personally by adapting to a new education system.

What did you learn during your Greenheart’s Teach USA experience?

I learned new classroom management strategies, differentiated instruction techniques, and the importance of fostering inclusivity. I also learned to be more flexible and creative when adapting my lessons for diverse learners.

How did Greenheart’s Teach USA Program help you get to where you are today?

Teach USA provided me with a platform to showcase my skills internationally, sharpen my teaching practices, and develop leadership qualities. It has opened doors to further career advancement and personal growth.

What is the best part of having international exchange teachers at your host school?

The best part is the diversity they bring—students and staff learn firsthand about different cultures, traditions, and perspectives, enriching the entire school community.

Give us some examples of how international teachers share their culture and how your host school shares the US culture with them.

International teachers share their culture through classroom activities, presentations, food festivals, and cultural heritage days. My host school shares U.S. culture through events like Thanksgiving celebrations, community volunteer programs, and American history projects.

Tell us about something you are most proud of that your host school taught you.

I am proud of learning how to incorporate social-emotional learning into my classroom routines, a strong focus in U.S. schools that positively impacts students’ overall development.

What interested you about Greenheart’s Teach USA Program?

I was drawn to Greenheart’s emphasis on cultural exchange, professional development, and community involvement. Their support system for teachers and commitment to global understanding truly resonated with me.

What does the program mean to you? Why would you recommend that U.S. schools continue to host international teachers with Greenheart?

The program represents growth, understanding, and connection across borders. I would recommend U.S. schools continue hosting international teachers because it fosters global citizenship, promotes diversity, and prepares students for an interconnected world.

My experience as an exchange teacher in Florida and Missouri, sponsored by Greenheart Exchange, has been incredibly enriching both professionally and personally. Teaching in two culturally diverse states has allowed me to grow as an educator, adapt to different learning environments, and connect with students from various backgrounds. Greenheart Exchange has been a supportive and inspiring sponsor, encouraging cultural exchange, professional development, and community involvement. This journey has not only enhanced my teaching skills but also broadened my global perspective, making it a truly life-changing experience.
