Meghan and Blanka have already experienced so much together in this first week. Blanka had her first day of high school in the U.S. and is jumping right into the life of an American teenager. She is quickly making friends and putting herself out there to get the most out of this opportunity. Host Mom Meghan is incredibly proud of her :).
Moments That Mattered
- We learned that we share a lot of common values and goals for this year. For example, we both want to be open minded and take advantage of life’s opportunities. We both want to make new friends, travel, or volunteer in the community.
- We talked about our expectations for ourselves and how they may not be realistic all the time. I want to balance being a single mom with my job, my friends, and with investing in Blanka. Sometimes I might not do a great job at balancing. Blanka said she wants to make friends with all different friend groups and be open and friendly. Some days may not be great. People may not always be friendly, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t a likable person.
- We make late night ice cream runs! It’s a great treat after I work late and Blanka does her homework next to me. She’s challenging herself to take anatomy and is working really hard
- We went to a high school football game together. Blanka wanted to sit with me and spend time with her friends. She was great about communicating and letting me know where she was going, but was also brave and independent.
