My Teach USA Journey with Greenheart Exchange

My name is Myla Juan, and I am an elementary teacher at Southwest School, Roosevelt School District No. 66 in Arizona. Being part of Greenheart Exchange’s Teach USA Program has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my life, both professionally and personally.

The Impact of Greenheart’s Teach USA Program on an International Teacher’s Career!

The Teach USA Program has had a lasting impact on my career. It challenged me to grow as an educator by embracing new teaching strategies, working with diverse learners, and collaborating with outstanding colleagues. I learned that great teaching is not only about delivering lessons but also about building meaningful relationships with students, families, and fellow educators. The support and encouragement I received from my host school helped me become a more confident, reflective, and effective teacher.

The Proudest Milestone of my Greenheart Teach USA Journey

One of the proudest milestones of my Teach USA journey was being recognized as the STAR CBM Growth Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year at Southwest School. This award celebrates the exceptional academic growth of my students and reflects the dedication, teamwork, and evidence-based instructional practices I have developed throughout my experience in the Teach USA Program. Receiving this recognition was an incredible honor
because it affirmed that my efforts to help every student succeed truly made a difference.

Cultural Exchange goes Both Ways!

One of the best parts of being an international exchange teacher is the opportunity to share my Filipino culture while learning about American traditions. I have introduced my students and colleagues to Filipino customs, celebrations, and stories, while my host school has welcomed me into American school traditions, community events, and holiday celebrations. These experiences have created meaningful cultural exchanges that foster respect, curiosity, and global understanding among students.

My Host School’s Exceptional Support

I am especially grateful for how my host school has encouraged me to continue growing as an educator. Their mentorship, trust, and collaborative spirit have inspired me to strive for excellence every day. The Teach USA Program has opened doors to opportunities I never imagined and has shaped me into a stronger teacher and leader.

Hosting International Teachers with Greenheart Exchange Enriches your Classrooms

I wholeheartedly recommend that U.S. schools continue to host international teachers through Greenheart Exchange. International educators bring diverse perspectives, innovative ideas, and rich cultural experiences that enhance learning for students and strengthen school communities. I am truly thankful to Greenheart Exchange, Roosevelt School District, Southwest School, and everyone who has been part of this incredible journey. The friendships, experiences, and lessons I have gained will stay with me for a lifetime.

Thank you, Myla, for sharing your inspiring story and accomplishments with us!
