Greenheart’s Site Visit to Sea Island in Georgia: A Champion of Cultural Exchange and Advocacy for Participants’ Growth

In May 2025, we had the pleasure of visiting Sea Island, Georgia, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! From world-class hospitality to a deeply supportive environment for BridgeUSA participants, this was a testament to what exceptional host organizations can accomplish.

A Warm Welcome by Greenheart’s Host Organization

As we were warmly greeted by Sofia head of Human Resources and our main point of contact for the Intern//Trainee Program, we immediately felt the deep dedication to creating an environment that fosters both professional development and cultural immersion. Her thoughtful guidance throughout the visit demonstrated Sea Island’s strong commitment to ensuring that each participant is treated as a valued member of their community

Home away from Home!

Our visit began at the newly constructed participant housing—a modern, four-story building designed with care and intention – not just for comfort. These apartments are more than just a place to stay; they are a foundation for personal growth. Fully furnished, move-in ready, and equipped with high-tech amenities, each apartment also includes a welcome kit, free laundry facilities, and shared spaces like a gym, classroom, lounge, and backyard soccer field. Access to bikes and regular social events, including movie nights, further enrich the experience and help foster a sense of belonging.

Greenheart’s Trainee Brings the World to His Host Organization

We met several participants, however one of the highlights was meeting Evashin Naidoo, a culinary trainee with an inspiring story. Born deaf and unable to speak until the age of five, Evashin has not only overcome significant challenges, but has also earned recognition for his remarkable work in Sea Island’s kitchen, particularly his decorative banquet creations. His story is a powerful reminder of the transformative power of opportunity and inclusion, and how programs like the BridgeUSA J-1 Intern/Trainee Program can provide a pathway to success for individuals from all backgrounds.

Greenheart’s Career Advancement Program Shapes Interns and Trainees’ Future

We continued our visit to The Cloister, where we observed participants actively working in the professional kitchens. We also visited the pastry department, HR offices, and the employee cafeteria. Everywhere we went, we interacted with trainees, listened to their stories, and discussed their career aspirations. It was clear that the participants were receiving technical skills and invaluable life lessons that will shape their futures.

Host Organization Offers a Holisitc Approach to Training

What stood out most was Sea Island’s holistic approach to participant support. They offer a range of meaningful perks, including uniform cleaning, meals in the cafeteria, and access to wellness programs. Furthermore, participants have the unique opportunity to attend classes and presentations by senior leadership, including the company’s CEO. This open-door policy not only motivates the trainees but also empowers them to see the bigger picture of their role in the company and community.

Multifaceted Experience at Host Organization

On a lighter note, we even learned about an exciting alligator rescue taking place at the Beach Club’s nature center! It was a reminder of the diverse, hands-on learning experiences that Sea Island offers, blending professional development with environmental stewardship and community involvement.

Heartfelt Goodbyes!

Our visit concluded with heartfelt goodbyes and thoughtful gift bags from Sofia and her housing team, which perfectly encapsulated the spirit of Sea Island—a place where every detail is attended to with care, and where participants are nurtured both professionally and personally.

The Impact of Cultural Exchange on Hosts and Participants

This experience was a powerful reminder of the far-reaching impact of cultural exchange. The true value of international exchange is manifested when hosts like Sea Island excel in training and create a home for their Interns/Trainees. At Greenheart, we advocate for programs that foster mutual respect, understanding, and collaboration—values that Sea Island embodies in abundance. Their commitment to cultural exchange and professional development is a shining example of how host organizations can help participants grow, contribute to their communities, and build bridges across cultures.
