Organize a Service Project!

By: Debby Hernandez, Work and Travel Marketing and Outreach Intern

It’s your busiest season of the year, your days are a whirlwind, and it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day demands of your work. We understand! But did you know that organizing a service project will not only benefit Exchange visitors but could be beneficial to Host Organizations too? Giving back to your community in such an obvious way is a great method for promoting your business and your role in being socially responsible! Not only will you be seen as a leader in your community, but there are immediate benefits to your staff as well. Collaborating on service projects help staff members build strong bonds as they practice teambuilding in a new environment. This will also create a new opportunity for Summer Work Travel participants to share their culture and learn about American culture at the same time, helping them fulfill the cultural component of their program.

With all of that said, we know your schedules are packed – so here is how to organize a service project in three easy steps!

Step 1: Find a cause your business is passionate about. This can be anything from sustainability to caring for animals.

Step 2: Get in touch with your Greenheart Contact. They will be able to help answer any questions you might have.

Step 3: Reach out to Greenheart! We can help you begin organizing your own service project and provide any support along the way.

Some projects you may consider include:

  • Hosting a food drive
  • Assisting at community functions
  • Donating clothing to shelters
  • Volunteering at a local shelter
  • Working at a local food pantry to prepare or pack food
  • Volunteering to clean up a local park, beach, or road
  • Volunteering at an animal shelter
  • …. And so much more!
