The Travel Bug: Sparked by Exchange Program, Intern Alum Pursues Career in Travel Industry

By: Natalie Bailey, Career Advancement Program Alumni & 2017 Ambassador Scholar

My passion for travel began after I came to the United States through Greenheart Exchange. I came to Massachusetts for an internship, and absolutely loved it. After coming back home from Massachusetts, I finished my last year at university and was awarded my bachelor’s degree in International Tourism Management.

After graduating this May, I did some travelling before starting my career. I went back to the United States and visited the jazzy city New Orleans for seven nights. My mum came with me, which was fun. The food, culture, and 18th century architecture was breathtaking. I didn’t go during the Mardi Gras festival season – so I definitely plan to visit again. I also did a short European tour. I visited a few destinations in Spain, then stayed in Hamburg, Germany to visit a close friend. I made one more stop in Amsterdam, Netherlands before coming home.

I am currently working within the tourism industry as an Administrator and Customer Service consultant for Travel by Inspire, a UK travel agency. I started last September on a fixed one-year contract, but I was offered a full-time position in January 2018, which I was excited to accept. The role is very challenging and requires problem solving skills due to the constant changes within the ever-transforming industry. I really enjoy my position, as I am faced with new situations everyday – no day is ever the same. I know that without my experience through Greenheart Exchange, I would not have found my love for working in tourism; it all began in Massachusetts!
