In this blog post, our Teach USA teacher, Dr. Jairoh Taracina (the Philippines), shares a group of photos showing his amazing journey engaging with fellow educators, the local and Filipino communities. The photos tell the story of an exchange teacher in the United States.
Dr Taracina wrote:
“These photos capture my journey as a Greenheart Exchange Teacher. They reflect meaningful moments inside and outside the classroom, teaching mathematics, celebrating my students’ achievements, volunteering in community events, participating in local parades, attending church, and sharing Filipino culture with people in the United States.
Beyond teaching, I have been blessed with opportunities to start programs that encourage students to grow academically and personally, including extracurricular initiatives such as a chess club and community activities. Every recognition I have received reminds me that the greatest achievement is seeing students gain confidence, discover their potential, and believe in themselves. None of this journey would have been possible without God’s guidance, the unwavering support of my family in the Philippines, the encouragement of my host school, church family, colleagues, students, and the Filipino community who welcomed and inspired me along the way.
Beng a Greenheart participant has taught me that cultural exchange is more than traveling abroad, it is about building genuine relationships, serving others with humility, and learning from one another. As a Filipino educator, I strive to represent my country with integrity, compassion, and excellence while continuing to grow as a teacher and as a person. I hope my story encourages other educators to embrace every opportunity to serve, learn, and make a positive difference wherever they are.“
