On May 5th, I attended Maine International Trade Day 2026 hosted by the Maine International Trade Center (MITC) at the beautiful new Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Science campus in East Boothbay, Maine. The ocean views definitely did not disappoint, and it was such a nice setting for an event focused on international business, innovation, and global connections.
A Significant Event
The event brought together businesses, organizations, and leaders from across Maine who are involved in international trade and global partnerships. This year’s program included networking opportunities, discussions on Maine’s growing “Blue Economy,” and the International Trade & Investment Awards ceremony recognizing companies making an impact internationally.

Networking and Making Connections
One of my favorite parts of attending events like this is the opportunity to connect with people in person. I had the chance to personally meet Wade Merritt, President of MITC, and later connected with Marty Hamre from the MITC member engagement team. I also had great conversations with representatives from Dentons, 3rd Planet Innovation (this year’s Innovation Award winner!), the Consulate General of Canada, KeyBank, and Deer Brook.

International Exchange Programs for a Global Collaboration
It is always encouraging to see such a wide range of industries interested in international exchange programs and global collaboration. Working with Greenheart’s J-1 Intern and Trainee programs, I love seeing Maine businesses open to building global connections. International exchange programs involve training and professional development. Those programs also help create cultural understanding, bring fresh perspectives into workplaces, and build long-term international relationships.

Final Reflections!
The event also highlighted innovation in Maine, especially in industries connected to science, technology, sustainability, and international trade. I felt very optimistic about the future of international partnerships in Maine, being surrounded by people who value global engagement.
A big thank you to the MITC team for organizing such a wonderful event. Greenheaert appreciates the opportunity to open the door to warm introductions with Maine businesses. I’m excited to continue building relationships and sharing how cultural exchange programs can support Maine employers and international talent alike!
