My name is Esmerlyn Jacinto Jiménez, and I participated in the Work and Travel Program with Greenheart Exchange. I currently work as a Room Attendant at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Round Rock, Texas.
Participating in this exchange program was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. It was my first time living and working in the United States, and although the journey was not always been easy, every challenge helped me grow both personally and professionally. I learned to adapt to a new environment, become more independent, and face difficulties with resilience and determination.
One of the greatest lessons I learned is the importance of teamwork and communication. At work, I met people from many different countries and cultures. Working alongside them taught me to appreciate diversity, be more open-minded, and understand that, despite our differences, we can all work together toward the same goals.
This program has also strengthened my confidence. I discovered that I am capable of communicating in English, solving problems on my own, and adapting to a completely new culture. These experiences have prepared me for future opportunities and have inspired me to continue growing both personally and professionally.
One thing I am especially proud of is representing my home country, the Dominican Republic. I have enjoyed sharing my culture, traditions, and values with people from around the world while also learning about theirs. This cultural exchange has been one of the most rewarding parts of my experience.
What interested me most about Greenheart Exchange was the opportunity to combine work, cultural exchange, and personal development. It is much more than just a summer job it is an opportunity to build lifelong friendships, gain international experience, and develop skills that will benefit me for years to come.
I am incredibly grateful to Greenheart for giving me this opportunity and for selecting me to attend the Greenheart Global Leaders Conference 2026. It is an honor to be part of a community of young people who are passionate about making a positive impact in the world through leadership, cultural understanding, and service.
This exchange program has changed the way I see the world. It has taught me that stepping outside of my comfort zone can lead to incredible opportunities, meaningful friendships, and personal growth. I will always be grateful for this unforgettable experience and for everything I have learned along the way.
